Am I a candidate for a Maryland Bridge?
The Maryland Bridge (also known as resin bonded bridge) is best
used to replace missing front teeth with healthy adjoining teeth
that do not have large fillings. The benefit of the Maryland Bridge
is that the existing teeth require minimal modifications compared
to traditional bridges. Traditionally, the pontic (false tooth)
is held in place by crowns placed on the abutment (neighboring
natural teeth) that have been shrunk and reshaped. The Maryland
Bridge has metal wings on each side that are cemented, out of sight,
with a composite resin. The abutment teeth are basically left intact
and undamaged.
