Tap Water Has Edge on Fluoride Front
Fluoride is essential as you age. Families that drink mainly
bottled water are having to decide whether give their children
fluoride supplements
or switch to tap water. Researchers found that only five
percent of bottled water meets the recommended
fluoride
levels
and are asking bottling companies
to include fluoride information on their labels. While too
much fluoride can discolor teeth, too little can increase
the risk of cavities. This is also an issue for older women as fluoride
can help prevent loss of bone
density. Alternatives are switching to an ADA-approved fluoride
toothpaste
or rinses
and
topical
treatments
we
can offer in our office.
