OTC Tooth Whiteners are not Always Safe
Be cautious when choosing an over-the-counter teeth-whitening
system. They are considered cosmetic products and do not require
FDA approval. They can irritate gums and cause further damage.
Dentist-supervised whitening is safer and often produces better
results. There are a few options available from 90-minute in-office
treatments to take-home treatments. Also keep in mind that the
best candidates for bleaching are teeth that have been yellowed
by age, coffee, alcohol or tobacco.
