Air Abrasion - The Newest Dental Drill
An air abrasion handpiece blows a powerful stream of tiny,
fine aluminum oxide particles out of its tip onto to tooth
surface. Also known as "microabrasion", it is an effective
method of removing tooth structure as an alternative to a dental
drill. Air abrasion is virtually painless and in most cases
eliminates a need for any dental anesthesia. There is no heat
produced or any vibration from rotation as is common to a dental
drill and the air abrasion handpiece operates very quietly.
This can be a viable alternative for patients afraid of a needle
of a treatment, it is especially appropriate for preparation
of small restorations, white fillings and as a preparation
for bonding procedures.
